Hamilton vs. Jefferson
Monticello guide Holly Haliniewski shares the story of one of America’s most famous rivalries. Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson played instrumental roles in the creation of America, and had completely different visions for the future of the country. But while a lot of recent attention has been paid to their disagreements, an object found at Monticello today might point to a deeper level of respect between the two.

Restoring Monticello's Flower Gardens
Просмотров 28321 день назад
In 1924 Monticello’s new owners began the process of restoring the gardens Jefferson had designed for his mountaintop home. But after a century of differing uses-and sometimes outright neglect-by various owners and caretakers, very little evidence remained of Jefferson’s original plans and plantings. It was a daunting task, and it could have ended quite differently were it not for the persevera...
Recreating a Spinning Jenny for Monticello
Просмотров 27321 день назад
Former Monticello guide and master woodworker Charles Morrill describes building a Spinning Jenny from scratch using only non-technical drawings and notes and a brief examination of one the few surviving examples in world. Jefferson has more than one Jenny at Monticello, which he hoped would increase the production of cloth in his small textile manufacturing operations.

Did Lafayette visit you in 1824 for 13 days, and "visit" your wine cellar?...
Stop being woke!!! 🤬
Stop being woke we want to hear about Thomas Jefferson not about his slaves!!
👍🏻
I give up. The wrong people are running monticello. Monticello is getting funds from woke entities
HELL YEAH POST RACIAL AMERICA!
Wales Jefferson Wingo
I love Monticello!
The question remains ??? Why did Hamilton go the Jefferson's House ? Has Jefferson went to Hamiltons house ? Hamilton secretary of Treasury ( bonds ) , and Jefferson , Secretary of State ... Aren't they called sovereign bonds ? State bonds ? Why is Jefferson on Sovereign Coins , and Hamilton sovereign bonds ( paper ) ? One has Liberty , the other does not have liberty . Im grateful for them both , I'm especially grateful for my Life , Liberty , and pursuit of Happiness ! Jefferson made IT Happen ❤ Thank you Thomas Jefferson! As long as I live , I will always keep you in my heart . Always !
Hope's house is still standing in Haarlem. It is now the seat of the provincial government of North-Holland and is called "Welgelegen". Worth a visit, a 30 minute walk from the city center with the beautiful church with huge organ where many famous composers played on (among which Mozart). If you can have a tour, there is still a cannonball in the wall of the attic of the church shot by the spanis when besieging the city in 1572. Also in the church the shortest epigraph (Ik) meaning "I". The central square is considered the most beautiful old square in the Netherlands.
🙏🏻🙏🏻A bunch of woke left-wing bull crap praise Jesus!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hamilton was the man George Washington's right hand man!!!
I love both patriots, but I would side with Hamilton back in that time period.
so funny at the end in the bed
So interesting. I don't remember the doors from my visit. But awesome.
Huh
Love these podcasts. Learn much from them. Thank you.
A renissance man ahead of his time 🎉❤🙏🏻🐘🇺🇸
Thank you for posting this, I meant to circle back and watch. I have a 1961 monograph on Prince Hall and a mass bay court case, I need to dig it out and follow up on that author's work. A scholar told me they had never gotten hold of it so I bought a print.
Wonderful video! Thank you. Hope thathe tubenclosing the ball weights was removed. Sorry that Jefferson could not afford a tuned carillon bell rather than that dull gong.
Why are _both_ doors required to be manually opened if there's the pulley system, which clearly works (mostly) to close both doors via the manual operation of only one door?
It's been several years, but I have absolutely no memory of those doors from our tour. I remember the clock, the narrow stairs, and the wine dumbwaiters, but nothing about doors.
Not impressed.
Jefferson was ahead of his time! 😀 I look forward to visiting in the near future.
Stop being woke we want to hear about Thomas Jefferson not his slaves praise Jesus!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Wow! Come install those doors in my house!
Excellent
Thank you so much for going to the trouble of making this podcast. It is wonderful. 😊
For those disparaging the mask. Jefferson was very interested in public health, medicine and science. He was instrumental in the development of an improved smallpox vaccine championed its use. He would certainly have worn a mask and been one of the first in line for a Covid vaccine. So this is perfectly in character for the worldwide pandemic that was raging at the time of this recording.
I enjoyed and appreciated this podcast very much! Thank you so much for making it. :-) Hearing about the state of medical practices back in Jefferson's day makes me very thankful that medicine has progressed so much. The modern medical world may not be perfect but it's infinitely better than it used to be!!!
no wait WHAT i didn't understand
Thank you
This was a fantastic episode and I enjoyed it very much
Apparently, I'm the only one here😑
The world economy rides on the back of modern day slavery. This video was aided by it.
Brilliant.
A popular saying: History is written by the winners. However... History written by the winners may not be objective. There is always some nonzero degree of subjectivity in any and all versions of History. 10 witnesses of some historical event: 10 separate versions of the Truth about said historical event. History of country X written by the citizens of X tends to be mythologized. Mythologizing is inevitable when the adult citizens want to raise their children to be good citizens of country X: country X is glorious!!! country X is magnificent!!! All sales pitch of any kind have a degree of untruth: overplay the good and underplay the bad. Mythologizing is a barrier to solving country X's problem. Mythologizing makes difficult the uncovering of the inconvenient Truth. Proper diagnosis before proper therapy. Do not expect the proper diagnosis to be good news. Do not expect the proper diagnosis to be hopeful bad news.
Why is she telling the story? This is a JOKE.
Nice presentation, Charles. Educational and informative.
Jefferson beat his horse so savagely in Phila., the people were horrified. awful.
Thank you for this video. I am visiting in a week, however I will not be arriving in time to experience this beauty. Looking forward to my visit.
A bunch of left-wing woke propaganda in the name of Jesus!!
while they still have historians?
That garden must smell wonderful on summer mornings!
So I’m in elementary school(4th) and we are going to Monticello 24h.. we have to get to school be&one school actually starts
Mr. Jolen Bain looks as if he could have been TJ's son 🙂!
You know how many slaves he had I’m not buying this once so ever
In a sea of garbage, this video is a diamond in the rough.
looking forward to seeing you
"Thomas Jefferson enslaved over 600 human beings throughout the course of his life. 400 people were enslaved at Monticello; the other 200 people were held in bondage on Jefferson's other properties. At any given time, around 130 people were enslaved at Monticello."
No one cares his slaves didn't matter then and they don't matter now praise Jesus!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you so very much.
People don't visit Monticello to stare at gardens. They go to learn more about, and to feel connected to, the great American Founder, Thomas Jefferson. A man held in contempt by the people who run Monticello.
